Copper,
which has always been used through the ages, is now being tapped for
its other potential uses as seen in "Usage of a small quantity
of the copper metal". The antibacterial properties of copper against
certain bacilli and its application for sterilization have been approved
and emphasized. It has also been said by our ancestors that water stored
in copper vessels is bacteria free. Copper wash basins have been used
in old houses and copper doorknobs and staircase railings were very
much in use in the olden hospitals too.
